Come From Away tells the true story of what happened when 38 planes were unexpectedly diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, after U.S. airspace closed on September 11, 2001. Overnight, nearly 7,000 stranded passengers from around the world found themselves in a remote community that suddenly doubled in size. The musical follows both the locals and the “come from aways” as they navigate fear, confusion, and the shock of global tragedy while trying to make sense of their new reality.

As the days unfold, strangers form unlikely friendships, cultures blend, and moments of heartbreak sit alongside surprising humor and warmth. The show highlights real individuals whose lives were changed during those five days — from airline captain Beverly Bass to passengers who found love, healing, or clarity in the midst of crisis. Ultimately, the musical celebrates generosity, resilience, and the extraordinary kindness that can emerge in the darkest moments.
