HHTheatreCo are very proud to present our upcoming musical; Our House featuring the music of Madness
Based in 1980s Camden Town, the Our House tells the story of London lad Joe Casey, who, on the night of his sixteenth birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date. In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a high-end property developer. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.
This very British, Olivier Award-winning musical is by Tim Firth, writer of Calendar Girls. It features a collection of Madness hits including House of Fun, Baggy Trousers, Driving in my Car, It Must Be Love and of course Our House.
The interesting challenge with Our House is that, according to writer Tim Firth, it is in fact two musicals. The story splits in two, following the life of Joe Casey down two separate paths, Good Joe and Bad Joe, depending on a decision he makes on the night his fateful 16th birthday. The play travels to many locations, from London pubs to Las Vegas hotels, following Joe through his life from 16 to a man in his early 20s.
We will be holding two introductory workshop evenings for people to familiarise themselves with the show, its characters, music and dances, as well as backstage opportunities, on 6th and 8th February at 19:45, with auditions on 12th and 13th February. Rehearsals will start on 15th February and the show itself will run from 27th June to 1st July.
